Saturday March 6th 2010:
MY FATHER'S BARN
|
|
My Father’s Barn is a newly published book of poetry by Bernadette McCarrick. Bernadette is a native of County Sligo. All of the poems in the book were inspired by the life and death of her father, Harry who passed to his eternal reward on Saint Stephen’s Day 2008.
All proceeds from this event will be donated to Bóthar, enabling families and communities worldwide to overcome hunger and poverty and to restore the environment in a sustainable way.
This evening will include live music interspersed with poetry readings from the book and a slide show featuring images inspired by 'My Father's Barn' as well as images featuring the work of Bóthar worldwide.
Some of Bernadette’s poems reflect a rural way of life in the 1950’s and 60’s which is no longer to be seen. Others reflect on her parent’s marriage of 63 years and her father’s long life of 97 years.
Bernadette is an award winning poet and has also been short-listed in numerous poetry and literary competitions. She is a national school teacher in North County Dublin where she lives at present with her husband, Kevin. Tickets available on the door.
