Saturday March 13th 2010:
NOEL SHINE, MARY GREENE & GUESTS
|
|
With special guests CON FADA O DRISCEOIL AND ELLIE SHINE
In a music world that likes to put things into neat boxes, it's hard to plough your own furrow but that's exactly what Noel Shine and Mary Greene do. They are quietly influential on the Irish music scene having contributed material to the recordings of artists such as Christy Moore, Sharon Shannon, Sean Keane and Kate Purcell, while Mary has lent her vocal talents to albums by Christy Moore, Frances Black and John Spillane amongst others. Their musical interests range from the whistle playing of Micho Russell to the writings of Bob Dylan, John Prine and Guy Clark and all manner of interesting points in between. Mary's voice has been described as “Rich, clear and true, capable of a world of emotion” by Ita Kelly of Irish Music Magazine.
Noel is a talented singer and multi-instrumentalist, playing guitar, mandolin and whistle with equal proficiency which keeps the setlist varied and a bit of a mystery tour! Their first album THE LAND YOU LOVE THE BEST was voted one of the top 3 folk albums in the year of it's release by The Irish Times while their second release UNSPOKEN LINES (which included more of their own original compositions)was deemed "an exquisitely-crafted collection of songs", and "a masterwork.......equally as powerful and hard hitting as any Alt Country/Folk crossover" by Paul Dromey of The Evening Echo.
They most recently released CLEAR BLUE SKIES, a collection of Mary’s original songs which garnered much national and international airplay and a plethora of critical kudos.
They have toured extensively throughout Ireland, the U.S. and Europe and are looking forward to this, their first trip to The Séamus Ennis Cultural Centre. Very special guests on the night include TG4 Composer of the Year Con Fada O Drisceoil and the next generation of Shine musicians, Ellie Shine on vocals and ukulele.
